Multi-National food companies love to manipulate the general public into buying their foods. They will spill anything on the front package that sounds healthy – but isn’t. It is half-truths to get you to buy their product. Let’s take a look at Uncle Tobys LeSnak as an example.
On the front of the package, it states in big BOLD PRINT ”made with real cheese.” While that may be true, how much of it is real? Well, let’s say 50%. Only half of the cheese spread is cheese; the rest is made up of…anything but cheese.
Water, margarine (vegetable fats and oils, water, salt milk solids emulsifiers (soy lecithin, and mono-and triglycerides of fatty acids, antioxidants (304 – ascorbyl palmitate, 307b – alpha-tocopherol), whey powder (milk), milk mineral, mineral salts (339 – sodium phosphate, 452 – pyrophosphate), preservative (234 – nisin) That is just for the cheese sauce. So much for ”real cheese” That is only the cheese.
Let’s move onto the crackers in the LeSnak.
Crackers: [wheat flour, vegetable fats, and oils,(antioxidants 304 – ascorbyl palmitate, 307b – alpha-tocopherol)], wholemeal wheat flour, sugar, wheat bran, invert syrup, salt, raising agents (503 – ammonium bicarbonate, 500 – sodium carbonate), poppy seeds, wheat germ.
Uncle Tobys also markets on the front of the package that it has no artificial ”colours” or ”flavours”. While that might also be true, it certainly doesn’t tell you all about the other artificial additives and preservatives.
So next time you shop, shop smart and look at the ingredients and nutritional panel, before buying processed foods. Look after your health and buy some plain water crackers and cut up some cheese and have that instead.
